As I excitedly plan my first-ever garden of my own, I sometimes forget about those tried and true favorites. This iris isn’t ::quite:: as exciting to me as more unusual gems, like Phlomis russeliana or Persicaria amplexicaulis, but she’s still a stunner! Sweeping eucalyptus branches add warmth and movement to this Cambridge home’s staircase. What are you adding to liven up your home during these dreary winter months? 💚 Geranium maculatum, living it up by the stream Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Jelena’ in all her radiance. Flowers for my valentine, @paulopiresmurta Scrolling through images to find shade garden inspiration, I came upon these! Let me introduce you to the queen of the autumn shade garden, Tricyrtis hirta ‘Miyazaki.’ I planted this perennial in 2017 and she has matured to monstrous size for this plant - nearly 3ft in height and width. I planted it among some existing astilbe, as both plants like the same damp conditions in part shade. The orchid-like blooms appear in September and persist through most of October. 💜 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy seems more important than ever this year, when the threat of white supremacist violence is so high. Let’s continue being actively anti-racist in our day to day lives. As MLK said, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” Happy Friday, flower friends! This amaryllis (Hippeastrum) ‘Picotee’ is just divine on a chilly January day. I was reminded what a charming installation this is yesterday while in Back Bay. ❄️❄️❄️
